It seems the celebrated TV chef Gordon Ramsay has a growing fondness for the picturesque county of Cornwall, reportedly acquiring a second home there. This latest acquisition is situated remarkably close to his existing coastal residence, raising eyebrows and sparking curiosity.
According to reports, the property in question is a 19th-century home that was made available for purchase last year. The acquisition was allegedly handled through a new company established by Gordon and his wife, named Rocky Bay Estates. Financial documentation filed with the land registry indicates that the purchase was financed with a mortgage from Coutts, a well-known private bank.
This new abode boasts four bedrooms and sits on a substantial two-acre plot. What's particularly noteworthy is its proximity to Ramsay's recently constructed modern home on the beach – it's reportedly just a dozen doors away! For context, the couple's original Cornish property in Rock, which they purchased for £4.4 million in 2015, underwent a complete reconstruction.
During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, the Ramsay family spent a significant amount of time at their Cornish residence. This period, while a necessary measure for many, unfortunately led to some local grumbles regarding second home ownership, a sensitive issue in popular tourist destinations.
Interestingly, during a recent appearance on Scott Mills' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show to promote his new Netflix series, 'Being Gordon Ramsay,' the chef was probed about his seemingly more mellow demeanor in recent years. He expressed his deep affection for Cornwall, citing activities like surfing and swimming as major draws.
However, Ramsay's relationship with Cornwall hasn't always been smooth sailing. Previous reports from CornwallLive highlighted that the chef has, at times, ruffled feathers with his candid remarks about the county. In a past conversation with Vernon Kay, also on BBC Radio 2, Ramsay shared his culinary appreciation for Cornish ingredients, stating he'd 'go down to the beautiful Cornish coast and get a little line-caught seabass and do that with a little light crushed potatoes.' Yet, he then added a rather provocative comment: 'Trust me, I absolutely love Cornwall, it’s just the Cornish I can't stand.'
