Imagine waking up to a cold, dark morning, only to realize that your power is out. This is the reality for over 2,000 AEP Texas customers in Harlingen, who are currently facing a challenging situation.
AEP Texas has confirmed that a total of 2,044 customers are without power, and the cause is a power outage in the area between South Ed Carey Drive and Dixieland Road. The outage map provided by AEP shows that the power went out around 6:18 p.m., and unfortunately, it's estimated to remain off until approximately 9:30 p.m.
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little unexpected. This power outage coincides with a cold front moving into the Rio Grande Valley. A freeze warning has been issued by the First Warn 5 Weather Team, effective from 9 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday. So, not only are these residents dealing with a power outage, but they're also facing freezing temperatures.
And this is the part most people miss: power outages during cold weather can be especially dangerous. Without electricity, staying warm and safe becomes a real challenge.
