Get ready for a wild ride! Paramount is taking us on an intergalactic adventure with their upcoming film, but this time it's not your typical space odyssey. They've acquired the rights to a mind-bending sci-fi novella, 'BadAsstronauts', by the renowned horror author Grady Hendrix. And the plot is as quirky as its title!
Imagine a DIY space rescue mission led by a failed astrophysicist, Walter Reddie, who decides to save his cousin stranded on the International Space Station. With no official help coming, Walter builds his own spacecraft and gathers a crew of eccentric characters. But here's where it gets crazy: these aren't your ordinary astronauts. They're the 'BadAsstronauts'!
Hendrix, a Charleston native, is no stranger to unique storytelling. His breakout novel, 'Horrorstör', set in a haunted furniture store, solidified his place in the horror genre. With several of his works already optioned for the screen, including 'My Best Friend's Exorcism', Hendrix is a sought-after author. But the question remains: will 'BadAsstronauts' be his next big hit?
The film is in the early stages of development, with producers Todd Garner and Adam Goldworm on board. However, the project has already faced some challenges. A previous adaptation of Hendrix's work, 'The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires', was put on hold by HBO Max due to a lack of desired reaction. This raises the question: will 'BadAsstronauts' face a similar fate, or will it boldly go where no Hendrix adaptation has gone before?
