Tyrese Maxey's 40-Point Explosion & Game-Winner! 76ers Edge Kings in Thriller | NBA Highlights (2026)

In a thrilling showdown on Thursday night, Tyrese Maxey delivered an exceptional performance, scoring a remarkable 40 points and sealing the game with a clutch layup just 1.3 seconds before the final buzzer, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a narrow victory over the Sacramento Kings with a final score of 113-111.

In addition to Maxey's heroics, Joel Embiid also shone brightly, contributing 37 points to the scoreboard. The 76ers demonstrated impressive resilience, overcoming an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. Paul George added to the team’s efforts with a solid 15 points.

On the opposing side, the Kings saw strong performances from Dennis Schroder, who put up 27 points, and DeMar DeRozan, who contributed 25 points. Unfortunately for Sacramento, this defeat marked their seventh consecutive loss.

The game's intensity peaked in the closing moments when DeRozan attempted a crucial 14-foot jump shot that could have given the Kings the lead but missed. Embiid collected the rebound with only 5.2 seconds remaining, prompting Philadelphia's coach, Nick Nurse, to call a timeout. When play resumed, the 76ers executed a second inbound pass after initially struggling. Kelly Oubre Jr. found Embiid at the top of the key, allowing Maxey to dash from half-court, receive the pass, and make a spectacular driving layup while being fouled by Precious Achiuwa.

The Kings had dominated the third quarter, outscoring the 76ers 38-28, which allowed them to take a 92-88 lead heading into the final period. At one point, Zach LaVine's three-point play increased Sacramento's lead to 103-92 with 7:44 left in the game. However, Philadelphia responded fiercely, scoring 13 out of the next 15 points, eventually tying the game at 105 with two free throws from Maxey, setting the stage for the nail-biting conclusion.

This defeat further deepened the Kings' struggles on the road, dropping their record to an alarming 3-21, as well as extending their losing streak to four games during their current six-game road trip.

For the 76ers, this matchup marked the second consecutive game featuring a healthy Embiid and George, both of whom were listed as probable prior to the game. Notably, George had previously set a Philadelphia franchise record with nine three-pointers in a recent win against Milwaukee, where Embiid also had an impressive outing with 29 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

The Kings faced additional challenges with key players sidelined, including Russell Westbrook (suffering from right foot soreness), Malik Monk (right ankle soreness), and Keegan Murray (left ankle sprain). Meanwhile, the 76ers were without Quentin Grimes due to a right ankle sprain, missing his second straight game.

Looking ahead, the Kings will face the Boston Celtics on Friday night, while the 76ers are set to host the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday evening.
